KELLY SOLEAU Horses: Master Mind, Centre Ice March 1, 2010
TC: Kelly, how did you get started on whole foods and Theracell?
Kelly: Dr. Tim Ober suggested a diet change for my jumper Master Mind because he had gastric and colonic ulcers that didn't respond to drug medication therapy. This horse was on 15 Sulcrate twice a day and 15 Rantidine twice a day plus Gastro Guard. We tried Misiprositol for 60 days and it did nothing. Nothing we tried worked. And Master Mind was not a happy horse. Dr. Ober suggested the whole food diet at the beginning of the WEF circuit last year, but I didn't make the switch until the end of circuit.
TC: How long did it take to see a difference in Master Mind?
Kelly: Tim ultrasounded him in May (two months after we started the whole foods diet and Theracell). Ulcers had gone down to 1/2 their size. Master Mind was so much happier and felt better.
TC: What inspired you to the put all your horses on whole food and Theracell?
Kelly: I said to myself, "Master Mind is doing so well, why not put all my horses on it." When I switched all the horses to the diet they all felt so much better. Itty Bitty went from being an uptight hunter to being totally relaxed. It was an immediate difference. Vinny (Vianco V-D Rampaarden) competes in the 1.45 meter classes with Jonathon Millar and he went from being ultra sensitive about being touched and now is totally chilled out. Vets can touch him without Vinny over-reacting. The difference in Vinny and all the horses since last year is amazing.
TC: What can you tell us about your up and coming jumper Centre Ice?
Kelly: We bought [Ice] this past summer. Switched him over to the whole food diet and Theracell gradually. He is totally different: more relaxed, more focused. He has mellowed out but he still has good energy. The right kind of energy. He is a horse that would rather eat his whole food than his hay. He just looks at his hay and begs for more whole food and Theracell. When he realizes he isn't going to con us into giving him more food, then he eats his hay.
TC: What is the Theracell program for your horses?
Kelly: Optimum, Equilibrium, Tract Bios, Post Performance, Pre Performance, and hemp oil. All the horses get Optimum and hemp oil. Post Performance in the summer or when it's hot and humid here in Florida. Pre Performance for certain horses to build more topline and muscle. Equilibrium to help reduce stress from competitions. I love Tract Bios; we used it when there was a virus going around and our horses were totally fine in 2 days. It really stopped the diarrhea very fast.
TC: What are some of the differences you've noticed in your horses since you switched to whole foods and Theracell?
Kelly: Less vet bills! We have less colics, and we use a lot less gastro guard. The horses are happier, nicer to ride, and not constantly fighting the rider. The horses are also easier for the vets to work around now. And because the horses feel so good in their bodies, it's easier to diagnose a specific problem because the horses aren't sore all over, and aren't cranky and over-reactive.
TC: What would you say to someone considering a whole food diet and Theracell for their horse?
Kelly: It's amazing. The results will shock you.
Kelly Soleau started riding at the age of two and her parents haven't been able to keep her away since. 26 years old and originally from Connecticut, Kelly now spends her time between Wellington, FL and Perth, Ontario. She trains with Amy, Jonathon and Ian Millar at Millar Brooke Farm and has spent the last 7 years with them competing all over Canada and the United States. Kelly had a successful pony and junior career and is enjoying her time as an amateur. She competed at North American Young riders in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and has shown everything from the small pony hunters to World Cup Grand Prix Classes. "Currently I am fortunate enough to have four amazing horses that I absolutely love," says Kelly, "and that are making possible one of the best circuits of my career."
